There was a need this summer for someone to direct VBS. I had seen it done by others for the last few years. I felt like I could do it even though I knew it would be a lot of work. The theme was "Twists and Turns". I started the planning in February and ordered the director's kit.
We did a work day to make decorations ahead of time and ladies from church helped. My Mom was in charge of decorating and made a lot of cute things and had good ideas. The theme included games- board games, video games and game pieces. It was a fun theme.
We worked on things at home too. I used the old projector to trace images.
Josh and the kids were a big help. I found several churches in the area that donated decorations to us and that was a huge blessing!
One of the hardest parts was making the rotation schedule. It wasn't perfect, but we made it work.
Since this was my first time as Director, I planned the crafts, games and snacks. I had the teachers execute the activities in the rotations. For snacks, we had Buffalo Wild Wings and Fajitas to Geaux donate food for a night.

Hudson was a helper this year. He would fill in where we needed.

Crafts
The cross crafts were cute, but a little hard
I was doing the opening and closing rally. There was a skit each night with a game to play like a gameshow. We thought it would be fun to do. My mom was the co-host and played the funny parts.
Pledges
Our teachers and helpers played the minute to win it challenges
On the last night, we let the oldest class do the challenge. They had to make a sundae blindfolded and feed it to their partner.
We did a "80's night on Friday per Grace's idea. It was a fun theme.
We had between 37-40 kids each night
For an offering, we collected can goods for the food bank. To make it interesting, we did boys vs. girls. We collected 420 pounds of food!
If the girls won, Hudson would get a pie to the face. If the boys won- I would get a pie to the face. I was nervous about that and thought I would lose. The girls came through and poor Hudson got the pie!!
It was a successful week, with no major problems! It would not have been possible without the help of our volunteers, teachers, helpers and donators. We had a lot of help this year and I was so thankful!
