School Update

I was anxious to start school since the classroom was ready and the lesson plans were all done. We  couldn't officially start until we came back from the beach because I worked the week before. On a whim, I decided to do a trial week. My plan was to ease them into how school would work. The first day was a disaster! I ended up crying and so did they.
We re-grouped and talked about how school would work and the rest of the week wasn't so bad

Gianna has her bean bag in the room, sometimes they can sit back there and work
On Friday, I took them to see the new Mike the tiger and get a snowball for making it through our first week. We survived!

Our first day of school was September 12, 2017
Hudson is in 3rd grade and Gianna is in 1st grade

They filled out a sheet " All About Me"
We also did a school theme memory match game
We learn a scripture verse every week and do devotions for Bible
Hudson's subjects are: Math, Language, Spelling, American History, Science and Health
doing multiplication  problems

Gianna's subjects are: Math, Language & Phonics, Spelling, American History, Science and Health
a self portrait she did in health
We tried doing school together, but that wasn't working out. They were too easily distracted by each other. Sometimes, we try it again-but it doesn't last very long. If I want to do school at the same time one of them sits in the class and one in the kitchen and I go back and forth.
The one that is easily distracted is Hudson. This boy will try to do and talk about other stuff and not focus on his school work 😏He will look out the window and mess with the blinds.

He is having a little trouble in math and spelling, but his grades have been good. He is doing well in his other subjects.

He really likes the experiments that we do in science.
A lot of times he likes to work under the table. I don't know why, but he likes sitting under there. He also hardly ever wears a shirt when he is at home and therefore in all these pictures he isn't wearing one.
Gianna is doing very well in all her subjects. Her handwriting still needs improvement. She likes math the best. She is also learning how to read, which I was the most nervous about with her. So far, I think she is on track.

She does not like to miss any questions on a test. I assure her she will still make a good grade, but she gets upset if she gets one wrong.

It has been harder than I thought it would be. I guess I thought they were already use to being in school, but it's a totally different environment. It was an adjustment period for sure. Each week it got better and around week 7 I felt like it was a good week instead of just "okay". I thought they would be use to the routine being half way through the year now. It was hard coming back from the week off at Thanksgiving and the last week before Christmas holiday was a struggle. Hopefully in the second half we can get it down.

I have been enjoying the pace of life that home school brings. It's more relaxed and flexible. We are  not rushing everyday to get things done. It's been nice to see them learn new things and I know everything that they are doing. I'm happy with the decision we made to do it. I didn't give homeschool moms enough credit until I became one! It is a hard job, but it is also full of rewards.

Since we are home a lot, they love being outside! Hudson has always liked being outside and now Gianna goes out a lot more. I guess we can call it "recess". (they also create a lot more dirty laundry!)

Hudson loves a fire and now he can build one on his own. He stays out there for hours tending to it.

He loves pulling this trailer that was Paw Vic's. He hauls wood and other things around making stops.

She did a great job! The ballet and pointe dances were so powerful and beautiful this year! I always get teary when I watch and this year was no different.  I volunteered on Sunday for the last showcase I was with a class next to Jules and got to watch some of her dances from back stage.  Gianna and Jules were both in this showcase, so my parents came to watch on Sunday A long weekend for the big girls, but they love doing it

March 2025

4-H shooting regionals was held the week of March 17th. Hudson had archery on Tuesday.  He placed 4th in his category and was going to state! Josh was out there all week since he is a coach  Hudson had shot gun events on Friday and Saturday.  Coach Mr. Donald and team They pray before they start  Kaden made it to state in shotgun This was his first year shooting advanced shot gun and it was tougher, but we are proud of him for trying it.  Hudson finished his driver's ed class. He got a 98 on the driving portion.  We celebrated Josh's 45th birthday at his parent's house. His mom made lasagna.  The beans were an inside joke  I made him Granny Lois' lemon pound cake  We went to lunch for Jamie and Leilynn's birthdays at Building 5 I gave Jamie a kitchen towel with Granny's pound cake recipe. She loves that cake and I have been wanting to make it for her. She loved it and cried.

February 2025

The girls had dress rehearsal for dance. I went on the Thursday class on the 6th. We got to see a preview of the dances.  Hudson had his first driving session on February 10th. He has to do 8 hours of driving with 2 hours being at night. I waited in the parking lot until he left. We did pretty good waiting while he was gone, but we kept checking Life 360. He said it was fine, I thought he was a little nervous. Afterward, he said it was no big deal. I guess we shouldn't be surprised, since he has been driving off road vehicles since he was young.  We spent Valentine's Day at home and made pizzas.  My birthday was on a Friday and I had work. Josh surprised me with an orchid for my desk.  I had lunch with some of my family at Albashas. Dillon was in town for something else and was able to come to lunch.  We celebrated our 19th anniversary by going to The little Big Cup in Arnaudville.  The food was really good. I had the crab cake and eggplant stack and Josh h...
