Josh's left hip started hurting in August. He wanted to make it through his work outage before having the surgery. We knew it was coming, but didn't think it would be so soon. He went to the doctor to confirm. He scheduled his surgery for September 19th . A few days before we found out our insurance lost their contract with Baton Rouge General. The surgery was at The Surgical Specialty Center on September 23 at 12:30 pm. We got there at 10:30 and I waited with him until it was time to go back. He could have visitors. His parents and Cadie saw him before the surgery. They took him back at 12:30

Surgery started at 1:10 pm and was done at 1:40 pm. Everything went well. The spinal epidural worked this time. He was in recovery for a couple of hours. I got the message at 3:10 that he was headed to his room. He was still out of it, sitting up with his eye closed. He was telling a story about salsa.
They brought him macaroni and cheese with a diet coke
His whole leg was hurting. When Dr. Linschoten came by he prescribed toradol in the IV and it helped. Physical therapy came at 4:45 pm to walk. He went down the hall and said it felt good.
He walked again that night. He also walked at 3:30 am because he felt stiff. It was a small hospital, but the care was good. The nurse brought us popcorn and ice cream that night. He was released the next day before 10:00 am
X rays at the follow up appointment on October 6th. He had tender spots on both sides of his hips. They said it could be bursitis from disturbing the area in surgery. They did steroid injections on both sides.
Physical therapy wasn't required, so he chose not to do it. We knew what to expect this time. He slept in the recliner for a while at home. Sleeping in the bed was so uncomfortable. He didn't use the walker for long. He stopped his pain meds about three weeks after the surgery. The plan was to be out of work for 8 weeks.
