Josh was sent home with an oxygen concentrator and portable tanks. It was hard for him to sit and rest at first, but that's what he needed to do. He took walks outside, sat in the sun, did crossword puzzles and caught up with people on the phone.
Camo became very attached to Josh and sat with him all the time
January 6th was his first follow up appointment with Dr. Padgett. His lungs sounded good and was pulling in good air. Continue to rest, hydrate and stay on oxygen to heal his lungs. Sitting his oxygen was about 95 and when he moved around it would drop.
We ate lunch with Jen and Cadie before the appointment. Josh had been craving sushi.
January 7th around 3:00 am he started having horrible joint pain in his knees and ankles. We tried pain meds, muscle relaxer and soaking in the tub. It finally let up by 10:00 a.m. and then started again. He called his doctor from the hospital and she said joint pain was common from the Covid and could last a few days. Dr. Padgett prescribed steroids for it. It helped make the pain more bearable, but it continued about four days.
January 10th- Our first church service back since December 13th. We watched online, but it's not the same as being in person.
January 13th- appointment with Dr. Padgett. They did an X-ray and bloodwork. He still had scarring on his lungs. Josh was doing small projects, but getting winded and tired by the end of the day. His oxygen level was staying in the 90's when he moved around.
January 14th- saw a pulmonologist who said it could take a month for the scarring to heal. She gave him an inhaler to help open his lungs.
January 24th- Josh played the drums the first time since getting sick. He was pretty tired and worn out after church. I teared up watching him during worship and so thankful that he was getting back to normal.
January 27th- another follow up with Dr. Padgett. They decided he could go back to work the next week on February 3rd. His oxygen level and strength was much better when he was moving around. He was off oxygen during the day and only using it at night.
He was off of work for 7 weeks and was placed on short term disability. His job was so understanding and worked with us. It was nice to have him home and we needed that time together after such a bad experience. It helped us grow closer and I missed him when he went back to work!
