We didn't think we would go anywhere this summer with Covid. My mom wanted to take us to the beach since things were opened enough to go. It was September 9-13th and we stayed at Turquoise Place in Orange Beach, Alabama.
We checked in at 4:00 pm on Wednesday
Every balcony has its own hot tub and grill. Gianna went straight to the hot tub while we unpacked. The heat pump went out, so we were only able to enjoy it one night. It was disappointing because the hot tubs in the resort were closed because of Covid along with the sauna and steam room.
Josh wanted to do all the cooking and even brought his own pots and skillets. All the meals were good!
That night we hunted for crabs on the beach
The girls wanted to be buried in the sand and then they poured crabs over them!
Getting ready for the first beach day
Heading out to the beach was a short walk from the condo
It was fun to see Jules on the beach. She loved the sand, but wasn't crazy about the ocean.
Josh and Hudson went up and down the shore finding jellyfish and crabs. The jellyfish were huge!
Gianna wanted Josh to go with her in the water to look out for them. The sea lice were also bad and made them itch and get a rash.
We picked up some body boards and sand toys when we got to Gulf Shores
Hudson did a little metal detecting, but didn't find anything
We went to the beach everyday and the weather was good. It didn't rain at all, but was cloudy some. It felt good because it was hot.
It was more crowded by Friday
The kids used rafts so that they wouldn't get stung by the jellyfish
Mom and Doug built sand animals
The kids caught 21 jellyfish one afternoon and put them in a pit so no one would step on them.
We went out to eat on Friday night at Doc's Seafood. The food was very good and the service was fast. They were not strict about wearing masks in Orange Beach so that was nice.
The kids played putt putt next door while waiting to be seated
Last beach day
We went to the pool some, but the water was so cold they didn't stay for long
We went to the indoor pool a few times
Went crabbing again on the last night
The lazy river was closed because of construction and only opened up on Sunday. We were checking out at 10:00 am, but they gave us a late checkout since it had been closed. The water was so cold and it was windy so they went around one time and got out.
Hudson wanted to ride go carts, so we stopped on the way home
Gianna wanted to stop at the new Bucee's in Loxley
It was a nice week with my family, despite the closures and dangerous marine life. I'm glad we got to spend time together, but we missed Dillon and the Boughers who couldn't make it!
