Josh built a box stand for him and Hudson to hunt in at the camp in Amite. They put it up in September.
A lot of work went into getting ready for deer season. They planted a food plot, put corn out and checked cameras.
Josh estimated they hunted 12-15 times. He would send pictures from the stand. Poor Hudson was tired from getting up so early.
They weren't seeing any deer and the season was almost over. We let Hudson go with Papa to Mississippi. They went on January 26 and didn't see anything.
They went back on January 31, which was the last day of the season. Josh called me around 7:30 a.m. saying Hudson shot at a doe and they were going to look for her. While we were on the phone, this picture came through:
Josh and I both started crying! We were so happy for him! He has been trying to get a deer for two seasons. Papa documented the experience with pictures and videos. Right after he shot it and sitting in the stand, Hudson was crying. He was nervous and his legs were shaking.
They tracked her and found her about 40 yards away.
Hudson pulled her out on the four wheeler
Blood on his face
We met them at the Russo's house when they got back to see it and then they cleaned it.

Turkey season started on March 8th for youth.Hudson went with Papa and Nana to sleep at the camp and hunt. They had a gobbler come in that morning, but got scared off. On the evening hunt, it was hard to tell if one was a jake. No turkey on the first hunt. Just a nap for Huddy.
Hudson and Papa went back on Monday, March 12th for an afternoon hunt. Hudson saw 3 hens and 2 jakes coming in. He was shaking, but shot a jake (young male).
We are glad that he and Papa get to do these hunts together!
It weighed 10.4 lbs
He said he doesn't need to hunt anymore since he got a deer and a turkey :) He likes it so much, I know he will go back. Daddy says he is going for horns and a beard next.
